Course Description
Our Sexual Violence Liaison Officer (SVLO) Training course introduces professionals to the skills, knowledge, and confidence to support and advocate for survivors of sexual violence.. The session focuses on ensuring that responses to disclosures promote healing, recovery, and empowerment and offering trauma-informed care.
The course will delve into the experience of sexual violence from the survivor’s perspective, offering participants the opportunity to challenge societal views, address rape myths, and reflect on their own outlooks. Using survivor voices, research-based theories, and real-life case studies, it will cover the key principles of trauma-informed practice and care, from initial disclosure to long-term recovery.
Course Content
Through the session, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the impacts of sexual violence, learn how to effectively support survivors, assess risk, and create tailored support plans. The course also explores providing continued support for survivors, ensuring they feel empowered throughout their healing journey.
By the end of this session, you will have the confidence and tools to support survivors with sensitivity and understanding, challenge myths, assess risks, plan for support, and promote longer-term healing. You will also understand the trauma-informed principles needed to foster an environment of trust, safety, and empowerment.
