Course Description
Our Being an Active Bystander course is compliant with the legal requirements introduced in October 2024 under the Worker Protection (Amendment of Equality Act 2010) Act. It empowers employees to identify, respond to, and prevent workplace harassment, including third-party harassment, under this new legislation.
This session aims to build confidence in addressing workplace harassment by creating open conversations. Participants will explore their own perspectives, societal attitudes, and legal responsibilities, raising awareness of the challenges faced by those who experience harassment.
Course Content
Through interactive exercises, real-life scenarios and reflective practice, attendees will develop the skills to recognise indicators of harassment, intervene effectively, and uphold organisational policies and procedures.
Format: Audio scenarios, role-playing scenarios, quizzes
Materials and resources: workbook, local resources to organisations who can support survivors of harassment and links to company’s policies and reporting processes.
Optional extras: ICENA can review the organisation’s policies and reporting processes regarding harassment, offering advice on guidance on creating inclusive, supportive policies and reporting guidelines.

The session is a half-day course online or in-person for up to 20 participants per session OR a 90-minute/2-hour session online or in-person for up to 20 participants per session.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Define harassment under the Workers Protection Act, including workplace and third-party harassment.
- Recognise signs of harassment and inappropriate behaviour, including those from clients, customers, or external parties.
- Understand active bystander intervention techniques and when/how to intervene safely in harassment situations.
- Apply strategies for reporting and supporting victims of harassment.
- Understand legal responsibilities for both employees and employers regarding harassment prevention.
